We took the benefits of dry powder inhalation therapy and made a good thing better. i-Point™ inhalation technology (used exclusively in our Acu-Breathe™ inhalers) was designed to facilitate the delivery of compounds to the pulmonary tract for respiratory and systemic illnesses. By allowing the drug to be inhaled only after a pre-determined air flow rate (trigger point) is achieved, i-Point technology is designed to ensure more consistent delivery of the necessary medicine, and is a true innovation in inhalation therapy.
How does i-Point improve on existing dry powder inhalation technology?
Our technology addresses three key factors in the dry powder inhalation marketplace: effectiveness, efficiency and reliability.
Effectiveness
- Trigger point controlled delivery minimizes the chance that only a partial dose of powder gets aerosolized
- Enhanced potential to target a drug to specific areas of the lung (e.g. asthma drugs are typically delivered to the central airways of the lungs while drugs for systemic illnesses need to reach the distal airways)
Efficiency
- Designed for high respirable dose delivery from the device
- Trigger point is designed to ensure blister clearance and minimize residual volume
