How It Works

MD Turbo® is easy to use thanks to i-Point™ inhalation technology.  It has a battery-operated counter and can trigger delivery of a dose automatically once the pMDI is loaded.

Delivery of medication

Once the pMDI is loaded, the patient shakes the Turbo® and inhales through the mouthpiece as they would when using a traditional inhaler by itself.

As the patient inhales:

  • Negative pressure (a vacuum) builds up inside the device, causing an air vane to pivot inwards.
  • As the vane pivots inward, a spring-loaded plunger is forced downward on the canister causing the release of the medication.  View functional diagram
  • The click of the plunger provides an audible confirmation that the medication has released.
  • The patient continues to inhale fully as with standard pMDIs.

After pushing in the loading lever on MD Turbo® the device is reset and is ready for delivery of the next dose.

Accounting for medication

The electronic counter is set only when a new inhaler is placed into MD Turbo. Every time the spring-loaded plunger is triggered, the number on the counter decreases by one. The counter can currently be set to either 200 or 120 doses.
